Relay musicians and singers 2015-2016
Since 2011, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) give the opportunity to young professional musicians and singers interested in education and outreach to take part to a training which focuses on the transmission of music to young people and those unable to go to performances, as well as its initiation and its discovery. This training provides the young professionals with improvisation and creation techniques to touch these audiences.
During the four year residency of the London Symphony Orchestra at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, several education projects took place thanks to the impulse of the Académie du Festival d'Aix, the education and outreach departments of the Festival d’Aix and the LSO Discovery (education and outreach department of the London Symphony Orchestra).
This collaboration continues today with the relay musicians and singers project. These young musicians and singers are trained during several thematic week-ends and have the possibility to put into practice what they learned within projects held by the education and outreach departments of the Festival d’Aix. The relay musicians and singers share their experience with young people and adults of all horizons. Reciprocally, these encounters enable them to nourish their personal and professional growth. The goal is to help them develop their professional skills while supporting their research for excellence and taste to transmit their love of music.
The working project of this 2015-2016 season is based on practical application workshops with various groups (children and adults, schools and associations). This education process will conclude with a great parade through various places in Aix-en-Provence on the 4th of June 2016, for the launching of Aix en Juin.
